Introducing

Lift & Place

A Canadian journal on northern golf and the lives around it.

Why this? Why now?

Canada ranks 3rd in the world by total number of courses and 4th in courses per capita. As of 2024, we have 6.3 million on-course golfers, 2x more golfers per capita than the USA.

All of this, with the added hurdle of a shortened season.

The sport has thrived to the far reaches of this country. Canada is home to some of the world’s greatest courses and some of the world’s most unique. The journal’s objective is to investigate and share the stories of the people, places, and landscape that make this sport happen, at such a prolific level, against the odds.

A craft forward publication

The journal will contain a mix of editorial content with an emphasis on craft. This means top-notch story telling paired with world class photography and design.

Printed in Canada on premium stock, the final product will be coffee table ready.

Defining Northern Golf

Northern Golf means anywhere that experiences a shortened season or harsh playing conditions due to winter.

For Lift & Place this is primarily Canada, with the potential to explore other areas "North of the 49". This may include Northern US States, Scottland, Iceland, Ireland, Denmark, and Northern Japan among others.

Reader funded

People don't buy publications for the ads. By being primarily reader funded we'll be able to keep the focus on the stories and people that make this game great.

No. At least, not in the traditional sense. We may feature makers, manufactuers, and those working to shape the game. But you won't see anything on the latest gear or tech and we certainly won't be doing any must buy lists. We'll leave that to the other guys.

We will never accept payment for a feature or sponsored article.

Will there be ads and sponsored articles?

The short answer is no. The long answer is we're open to working with some strategic parters to bring this to life. Ads will be kept to a minimum and the emphasis will always be on content and craft.

We will never accept payment for a feature or sponsored article.
